The reason he did not owe tax was the fact the money was not his. He was acting as an entity.

Purpura made a deal with the prosecutor to plea guilty and to corporate with the investigation and to secure the money (not really his money).

Would that be the real story ?ijhttp://ij.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1519969502186924526.post-32104091555734904142012-03-07T11:09:37.014-06:002012-03-07T11:09:37.014-06:00It appears that the defendant was holding money i...It appears that the defendant was holding money in the account for some target of the investigation who may have done something very bad (too cryptic to tell).

In this sense, the defendant may have helped hide the target's funds and then cooperated in bringing the funds back for the Government. So, he apparently was involved in some bad conduct, but in terms of personal culpability may have been on the periphery. Hence (i) the charges and (ii) the light sentence.

Jack TownsendJack Townsendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14469823736335455874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1519969502186924526.post-54425499143205786742012-03-07T11:01:26.487-06:002012-03-07T11:01:26.487-06:00I can't believe the fact he would plea guilty ...I can't believe the fact he would plea guilty on the charge in the first place. The click Schedule B with no alone (even it was the fact) should not be sufficient for a criminal intent or willfulness. What was his motive of this nothing more than an error as there was no tax advantage.

I guess he was either represented by a lousy attorney or he was not represented at all.

Compared what he did and got, most of us here might have to stay in jail -:)ijhttp://ij.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1519969502186924526.post-17952971786730019052012-03-07T10:28:14.814-06:002012-03-07T10:28:14.814-06:00It seems pretty severe on the government's par...It seems pretty severe on the government's part to bring a deportation case against him 15 years after the conduct. Even the original conviction seems severe given that there was no tax loss.

But its possible there may be more involved than we know in the original case (especially with regard to the criminal being investigated).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
